Keeping our roads safe

Snow Removal

PLACEMENT OF SNOW, ICE OR DEBRIS ON PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY PROHIBITED:
The county is in cooperation with the state to enforce safety of the public rights of way by prohibiting anyone from placing or leaving debris on any roadway or public rights of way within the county, including snow or ice from private driveways or parking lots. Violation of this provision is punishable by a written warning at the discretion of the safety officer, or as a class B misdemeanor, subject to penalty as provided in section
1-4-1of this code

Tree Ordinance

Pruning, Corner Clearance. Every owner of any tree overhanging any street or right-of-way within the County shall prune the branches so that such branches shall not obstruct the light from any street lamp or obstruct the view of any street intersection and so that there shall be a minimum clear space of eleven (11) feet above the surface of the street and a minimum clear space of seven
(7) feet above the surface of walking paths. Said owners shall remove all healthy, dead, diseased, or dangerous trees, or tree limbs that constitute a
menace to the safety of the public or prevent the County from maintaining County sidewalks, curb, or streets. The County shall have the right to prune any tree or shrub on private property when it interferes with the proper spread of light
along the street from a streetlight or interferes with visibility of any traffic-control device, traffic sign, or street-maintenance equipment.

Weed Control

Control starts with identifying the weeds on your property early and implementing a control strategy.


An integrated approach to control is recommended. This might include;

Prevention– don’t introducing new weeds, don’t let weeds go to seed

Cultural- keeping lawns and crops healthy

Herbicides– follow label instructions

Mechanical– digging out or mow weeds

A couple of common herbicide are; Roundup for total vegetation control and 2,4-D for selective broadleaf control.
